Health Tips - Aspartame

Aspartame

Aspartame is in over 6,000 products worldwide (most diet drinks, sugar-free desserts, chewing gums, tabletop sweeteners, etc). When a person ingests aspartame, it breaks down into methyl alcohol (methanol), which further breaks down into formaldehyde, which is well known to cause cancer.

With billions of dollars at stake in its use, large companies such as Monsanto have been intimately involved in its research, promotion, and FDA approval. In other words, the only studies available regarding aspartame involve conflict of interest.

The undeniable fact is that aspartame breaks down into formaldehyde – Read the Material Safety Data Sheet here regarding this "severe poison". It says that it "cannot be made nonpoisonous". It is a "strong sensitizer" that can cause "severe abdominal pain, violent vomiting, headache, and diarrhea". It "may be fatal or cause blindness if swallowed." This Data Sheet was prepared by: Environmental Health & Safety.

Symptoms of Aspartame Use

There are lists of reported symptoms related to the use of aspartame. Here are just a few more: thyroid dysfunction, nausea, vertigo, insomnia, loss of control of limbs, blurred vision, blindness, memory loss, slurred speech, depression often reaching suicidal levels, brain damage, hyperactivity, seizures, skin lesions, rashes, anxiety attacks, muscle and joint pain, numbness, mood changes, loss of energy, hearing loss or ringing in the ears, loss or change of taste, dizziness, convulsions, and symptoms similar to those in a heart attack.

Child-related

It is estimated that as many as 20 million people cannot break down one of the components of aspartame, phenylalanine. This inability is passed on genetically to children and can lead to mental retardation in children. Women with an intolerance for phenylalanine may give birth to infants with as much as a 15% drop in intelligence level.

When aspartame is combined with glutamine products (such as MSG, widely used in foods), there is an increase in the likelihood of brain damage occurring in children.

Its Many Names

These artificial sweeteners contain aspartame, disguised by different names: Nutra- Sweet, Equal, Neotame, Benevia, Canderel, and now AminoSweet. Do not buy or ingest any of these aspartame products!

Use sweeteners that are natural and safe such as stevia extract!
