Mint Chutney

Chutney is an Indian condiment that is made in a variety of flavors. The word chutney comes from the Hindi word “chatni”, meaning to crush. Before blenders, chutneys were ground with a mortar and pestle.

This is my favorite, nutrient-packed version that I created for you to get raw vegetables into your diet easily:

Ingredients

2 cups well-packed, de-stemmed, fresh mint leaves
Juice of 3 limes
1/2 Jalapeno pepper with seeds
1/8 cup water
1/4 teaspoon Stevia extract
1/4 teaspoon sea salt

Blend in a Vita-mix or food processor, until smooth. Pour on top of fish, meat or vegetables.

Mint’s Health Benefits

  • When included in the diet on a regular basis, mint reduces the growth of bacteria and fungus in the body.
  • Mint contains perillyl alcohol, which is believed to prevent colon, skin and lung cancer. Animal studies suggest that perillyl alcohol slows the growth of pancreatic, mammary, and liver tumors.
  • Mint helps soothe the digestive tract, even reducing Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
  • Mint is a strong diuretic.
  • Mint helps in getting rid of headaches.
