Health Tips - Organic Food

should I buy organic food?

Patients often ask me this question:  “Should I buy organic food?”As a teacher of mine once said, “Would it be okay to make a great meal and spray a little RAID on it?”

From the United States Environmental Protection Agency:

"Laboratory studies show that pesticides can cause health problems, such as birth defects, nerve damage, cancer, and other effects that might occur over a long period of time. . Some pesticides also pose unique health risks to children."

Pesticides used on food include:

  • Insecticides to control insects
  • Rodenticides to control rodents
  • Herbicides to control weeds
  • Fungicides to control mold and fungus
  • Antimicrobials to control bacteria

Best of all, organic food usually tastes better!
