Supplements with niacin

Some supplements contain the vitamin niacin, a B vitamin that causes capillaries (small blood vessels) to expand. When taking one of these supplements you may experience a niacin flush; at certain niacin levels the expansion of the capillaries can cause heat, redness and itching. On a rare occasion you can have chills after all the heat has dissipated.

Don't worry, this is a good thing as it flushes out toxins from the body and usually passes in about half an hour. If the niacin flush is too uncomfortable for you, spread the supplements out throughout the day and read my article on body repair.

Why take niacin or vitamin B-3? Niacin is essential for healthy skin and circulation. It is vital to normal brain and nerve function, enhancing memory and positive emotions. It is vital for digestion as it is needed for the manufacture of hydrochloric acid by the stomach. It aids in the digestion of fats, carbohydrates and proteins. It lowers “bad” cholesterol and is involved in the secretion of bile by the gall bladder. It assists the overall detoxification process.
